Prenatal/Postpartum Therapy

The transition to parenthood can be full of wonder as well as challenge in adjusting to a new sense of responsibility, identity, and expectations. New mothers often find the experience of pregnancy and the postpartum period to be different than what they expected. Adjustments must be made to a changing body, changing relationship with one's partner, family, or friends, and one's sense of self. The period of pregnancy and early motherhood is also a timely opportunity to grow in new ways. My approach is to help parents to reflect on the ways that their own upbringing affects their parenting and how they feel about their child. Overwhelmed parents often have difficulty recognizing ways in which they are effective. I help parents identify and expand those strengths. My approach also includes providing developmental guidance and support for parenting concerns.

This may be a pregnancy or birth complication, breastfeeding difficulty, health issue for your new baby, as well as relationship or financial issues. New parents also often experience significant sleep deprivation and isolation which can have a powerful effect on one's well being.
